Carnoustie Championship Course - Par 72, 6941 yards
Widely recognised as the toughest test in Open Championship Golf. The Carnoustie Championship course is a Par 72 with a standard scratch for amateurs of 75. Many tournaments have been won and lost at Carnoustie by players such as Tommy Armour, Sir Henry Cotton, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Ben Hogan, Jean Van de Velde, Paul Lawrie and 2007 Open Champion Padraig Harrington.
Carnoustie Buddon Links Course - Par 66, 5420 yards
Opened some 20 years ago on land purchased from the Ministry of Defence (each hole is named after a famous battle). Designed by Peter Allis and Davis Thomas, it is far shorter than either the Championship or the Burnside with seven Par 3's and only one Par 5. As would be expected given its location it is an excellent example of Links golf with holes 7, 9, 11 & 12 testing every golfer’s ability to use accuracy and control. The Buddon Links is a fine compliment to the Championship course.
Carnoustie Burnside Course - Par 68 6028 yards
Although a previous Open qualifying venue, it is often overshadowed by its illustrious neighbour. Many of the short holes would grace any links course with the 5th and 14th in particular providing dramatic challenges for players who strive to gain their Par 3. The finish is also strong with the 17th proving to be one of the hardest Par 4’s that can be found anywhere and many a score has been ruined by the out of bounds fence at the 18th.
