In the eye of many locals the ground upon which the club built the course was 'only fit for snipe shooting' but undaunted by this Captain H. C. Tippett designed a course that not even architect Commander Harris could fault.

Tramore has matured into one of the greats and in 1987 it was awarded the first of its 3 Irish Close Championships. All it takes is one stray shot to ruin a potentially respectable score.
