Golf holidays in Gran Canaria

Imagine any day of the year, it doesn't matter if it is in winter or summer. Imagine blue skies and the perfect temperature for playing your favourite sport

.Now, could be the time for a golfing holiday in Gran Canaria. Thanks to the influence of the trade winds and the gentle sea currents which caress its shores, this island enjoys one of the best climates in the world. Gran Canaria is often referred to as a miniature continent. It has an exceptional ecosystem and amazing contrasting natural scenery. The ideal location, in fact, for a perfect golf holiday.

Gran Canaria boasts four 18-hole golf courses. As we go to print, two more courses - Anfi Tauro and Meloneras - are nearing completion and may already be open by the time you are reading this web page, bringing the total to six.

This island has so much to offer; golden beaches with fine sand, nature reserves, excellent hotels and resorts to suit every taste. If you haven't already done so, now could be the perfect time to experience the pleasure of golfing in Gran Canaria.

Gran Canaria Golf

Real Club de Golf    Par 71, 6230 yds
Located close to the crater of an extinct volcano and with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside, this is the oldest golf course in Spain. Narrow fairways, small greens and deep ravines mean that accuracy is paramount on this relatively short course.

Golf de Maspalomas   Par 73, 6723 yds
Host to two European PGA tournaments, this long and flat course is surrounded by sand dunes and is a real pleasure to play. Usually there is a gentle sea breeze to bring relief from the heat and keep players cool even on the hottest days.

El Cortijo   Par 72, 6417 yds
Dotted with lakes and palm trees and with lightning quick greens, this 18-hole course presents a challenge to all levels of players. The course enjoys some spectacular sea views and the 15th hole is particularly interesting, with a dog-leg to the right and a lake guarding the approach to the small sloping green.

Salobre Golf  Par 71, 6122 yds
Designed by Ronald Faure in close collaboration with Robert Trent Jones, the Salobre Golf Course opened in 2000. Surrounded by a volcanic landscape, the course has an almost desert-like quality. Nowhere more so, than on the 14th hole, with its very high tee and the green surrounded by a cactus strewn landscape.

Meloneras Golf Club Par 71
Inaugurated in June 2006 and located in Meloneras Bay in the south of the island this course is characterised by 9 holes with mountain views and 9 holes with sea views of which 3 holes are on the coast itself. Each hole has 4 tees and the course is designed for players of all levels, with each hole progressing in difficulty. The view on the green glides into the blue of the ocean, with a stunning prospect of the Canary mountains on the one hand and the harbour of Pasito Blanco on the other.

The course is situated in the resort of Meloneras with good accessibility to modern luxury hotels and shopping centres. Meloneras Golf offersits clients an innovative service such as buggies with GPS.

Anfi Tauro Golf
At the time of going to print, still a 9-hole course. However, by the time you are reading this, the new nine holes will have been completed. Dominated by a large lake with crystal clear waters, this new 18 hole course is sure to prove a great addition to the golf on offer on this great holiday island.
