Enjoying a spectacular location on one of the island's loveliest sandy beaches, on the east coast, the five star Belle Mare Plage was completely renovated to the highest of standards in November 2002.
Built in the typical Mauritian style, Belle Mare Plage is set in well-tended tropical gardens of almost 20 acres. The beach is protected by an offshore coral reef, making it ideal for swimming and watersports.
Belle Mare Plage offers its guests an unequalled array of amenities, activities, temptingly delicious cuisines and the the highest standard of comfort in its accommodation. No matter what your taste or interest, there is an entrancing holiday awaiting you at Belle Mare Plage.
Tennis playing, lessons and clinics take place on four clay courts. There's an air conditioned squash court, jogging path, and complete fitness center. The guest can choose wind surfing, water-skiing, hobie cat sailing from a long list of water sports, all in the coral reef protected lagoon.
At Belle Mare Plage each meal is an inspired celebration. The freshest, most aromatic ingredients are artfully prepared, then presented by attentive waiters. Each of the four restaurants has its own style and character and all subscribe to the resort's high standards
.
Free Golf
Internationally renowned as one of the finest and most complete sporting complexes, Belle Mare Plage offers a selection of activities for both the amateur and the professional.
There are now two courses at this plush resort, one having been designed by South African Hugh Biaocchi and the other by Peter Alliss, the BBC's 'Voice of Golf'. The courses are only open to residents of the hotel and they do not charge green fees.
The Legend course
Biaocchi's creation is called the 'Legend' and features 18 holes each offering an individual challenge, the course having been carved out of bush-covered volcanic rock in some areas and shaped over low-lying flood plains in others. Accuracy down the indigenous tree and bush-lined fairways is the main challenge, with most holes culminating in large, receptive greens set in breathtaking natural backdrops. Biaocchi's favourite hole is the 17th, the 160-yard par-3 offering spectacular views across the sparkling waters of the adjoining bay. Belle Mare Plage is the home of the Mauritius Open, an event which has been won by the likes of Rodger Davis, Michael McLean, Philip Golding, Jonathan Lomas and Scotland's Gordon Sherry.
A number of other European Tour players, including Lee Westwood, Andrew Coltart, Barry Lane, Ronan Rafferty, Joachim Haeggman and Thomas Levet, have also played in the event.
The Links course
Opened in November, 2002, this 18 hole par 71 course was designed by Rodney Wright and Peter Allis and is the perfect complement to its sister course, since its layout is so different.
You soon discover why it is called the links, as it has a real links feel to it with its exposed location and rolling terrain. The back nine, though, has more water and, therefore, requires extremely accurate approach play.
