Abu Dhabi Golf Course
Carved out of the desert, Abu Dhabi Golf Club features two 18-hole courses designed by Peter Harradine, whose accomplishments in the Middle East include Doha, Jebel Ali and the Mirage in Cairo.
The two courses occupy 162 hectares and feature undulating terrain meandering through pockets of palms and ornamental trees, shrubs and seven saltwater lakes. An extensive irrigation system pumps in over 2,500,000 gallons of water to make golf in the desert a reality.
Specifically designed to be challenging yet fair, the 18-hole, par 72, 7204-yard Championship Course, completed in 1998 and now fully mature, is a natural inspiration with lush fairways, strategically placed bunkers and generous greens to challenge golfers whatever their handicap.
As a perfect complement to the Championship Course, the 18-hole (holes 10 to 18 are floodlit), par 72, 6498-yard Academy Course is most forgiving, making it ideal for all players and especially those new to the game.
The extensive practice facilities feature two 18-hole putting greens, chipping greens and practice bunkers - the perfect complement to the floodlit 350-metre, 7.5 hectare driving range. The range, the largest in the Gulf, has target greens and is sufficiently long that players may practice their driving at either end in complete safety.
The Abu Dhabi Golf Academy features a state-of-the-art training facility, including video analysis and undercover hitting areas. A variety of instructional programmes catering for all levels of players is offered, taught by hand-picked PGA professionals.
Electric golf carts are available for players to rent. Alternatively, pull trolleys and motorised trolleys are available for those wishing to walk.
A variety of hire equipment, including golf clubs and shoes, is available for rental, while the fully stocked pro shop offers a variety of clothing and golf accessories for purchase. It's also the ideal place to find that souvenir from Abu Dhabi! |
